"Friendly guy, reasonable prices, comes with free kindling (bring a box!). He's very upfront about which wood is seasoned and ready to go. Best to get your wood early in the season (Sept or so) if you can. Great way to buy local!"
"It was $80 bucks for a truck load which ain’t half bad. And I’ll tell you that the owner is a helluva nice guy; helped load the truck and everything. However, I would recommend bringing a moisture gauge with you, which I sadly did not. Or ask em to do a moisture check while you’re there. (That’s honestly anywhere you buy) You typically would like to see between 15-20% moisture content. The batch I bought has many of the telltale signs of elevated moisture levels that aren’t ideal for burning: •Sizzling or hissing sounds as moisture inside the wood boils and steams. •Weak, dull, or sluggish flames that struggle to stay lit instead of bright, lively flames. •Creosote buildup in the chimney, seen as black, tar-like residue inside the firebox. •Blackened or charred wood that doesn’t fully burn, leaving large, partially burned logs. They may have grabbed from the wrong pile and put out a batch that hadn’t aged long enough. I don’t think there’s any ill intent by any means. I’ll just have to set this wood out to age before I burn any more of it. Had I bought this over the summer and had it sitting the whole time this wouldn’t have been an issue."
